Beata Hlavenková piano
The pianist and composer BEATA HLAVENKOVÁ, one of the leading figures of the Czech jazz and alternative scene, collaborating with Lenka Dusilová on the Baromantika and Eternal Seekers projects, has made a new recording. THEDOROS, released by ANIMAL MUSIC, is a remarkable album comprising twelve of her own pieces named after the months of the year, with the piano playing the role of the solo instrument and several piano parts overdubbed. The CD has arrived more than four years after Beata's critically acclaimed debut JOY FOR JOEL (Animal Music, 2009), characterised by the music writer Saša Neuman as an "original, singular jazz album, ranking among those bright, timeless recordings whose appeal does not fade but increases with the days, weeks and months". The critic Lubomír Dorůžka wrote: "I played the album several times so as to find out whether my enthusiasm after the first listen would wane. It didn't, and I still consider it an exceptional accomplishment on our contemporary music scene". In comparison with the previous, sonically diversified album, THEODOROS presents a mixture of more intimate pieces. As Hlavenková herself put it, she was inspired by the song form and its fascinating simplicity. The album was recorded at the Janáček Conservatory Hall in Ostrava, mixed at the Sono Records studio (Milan Cimfe) and mastered by Tony Cousins at the Metropolis Mastering studio in London.
